Architecture Day at Barrandov

  • Prague 5
  • Flats Kaskády Barrandov

This year's festival will take you through the iconic architecture of Prague 5.

From Friday, September 27, to Thursday, October 3, the 14th annual Architecture Day festival will take place across the Czech Republic.

This year's theme, "The Process of Transformation," commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of writer Franz Kafka. Events will also be held in Prague 5. The festival will focus on buildings and places associated with Kafka, locations with a Kafkaesque atmosphere, as well as the latest constructions, inspiring renovations, and landscape architecture.

The diverse program of this year's edition includes tours of usually inaccessible buildings, architectural walks with captivating expert commentary, bike rides, lectures, and even theater performances or concerts. The event is organized by the Kruh association, which has been dedicated to promoting and popularizing architecture for nearly a quarter of a century.

In Prague 5, the festival will feature nine fascinating tours and walks that will introduce visitors to the history and present of several interesting sites and structures. One of them is a unique and still-functioning mechanical filing system from 1936 in the functionalist building of the Czech Social Security Administration, which has been a cultural monument since 2004. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the complexes of both ČSOB headquarters buildings in Radlice, connected by a shared progressive vision of environmentally conscious architecture. The program also includes an event with architect Zuzana Ilinčevová, who will guide visitors through the diverse neighborhood of Košíře, where history blends with culture and a rich artistic life. Another walk will present the area of the former workers' colony Buďánka, where, under the guidance of photographer Kristýna Dvořáková, participants will learn about its 200-year history, during which it was also mentioned in the works of writer Jakub Arbes.
