The Ctěnice Castle Grounds cordially invite you to join the traditional Masopust festivities on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, featuring a grand feast and joyful celebrations!

Experience an authentic Czech pig slaughter feast, street performers, stilt walkers, hand-carved carousels, and a vibrant Masopust parade with masks. Feel free to come wearing your own mask or craft one on-site—it's entirely up to you! And how many traditional Masopust doughnuts can you enjoy in one day? That’s for you to decide.

For families seeking a full day of fun, be sure to arrive early at 10:00 AM to catch the puppet show Baba Yaga and the Mightiest Sword by the renowned troupe Loutky bez hranic.

Event Schedule:

    10:00 AM – Puppet show Baba Yaga and the Mightiest Sword
    11:00 AM – Horačky: Traditional dance and tales of Masopust
    11:30 AM – First juggling performance
    12:00 PM – Hudera & Son: Pig butchering demonstration
    1:00 PM – Second juggling performance
    1:30 PM – Horačky: Performance, parade around the grounds, stable stop
    2:30 PM – Third juggling performance
    3:00 PM – Hudera & Son: Sausage-making demonstration
    3:45 PM – Horačky: Dance, storytelling about Masopust, farewell
    4:00 PM – End of the event


Throughout the event, you can visit:

  •     The castle laboratory and craft workshop to create your own masks
  •     The whimsical hand-carved carousels by master carver Matěj
  •     Traditional pig-slaughter feasts
  •     Various vendor stalls offering local goods


What our vendors will be serving:

  •     Traditional Czech specialties: sausages, black pudding, liver sausage, pork soup, and smoked meats
  •     Grilled cheeses and potato pancakes
  •     Masopust doughnuts, gingerbread, pastries, macarons, and honey treats
  •     A variety of drinks: beer, fresh juices, and hot alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages
