Discover the fascinating story of Sophia Alekseyevna, the ambitious half-sister of Peter I, who became one of the remarkable female figures in Russian history. In an era when women were often seen as inferior and dependent, this extraordinary woman ruled Russia with a firm hand for seven years. Despite the resistance and pressure from the men around her, she gained respect for her ability to govern and for forging important agreements, including a peace treaty with Poland. However, she was ultimately overthrown by her brother and condemned to life in a convent, where she continued to conspire against Peter’s rule. Historian Jakub Rychtar will present her story of courage and determination.
Join us and listen to the story of a woman who refused to yield to her fate.
