Snow-Covered Nativity Scenes
When: Thursday, November 21, 2024 – Sunday, January 12, 2025
Where: Museum of Czech Christmas, Rovná 352, Ořech
From November 21, 2024, to January 12, 2025, the exhibition of nativity scenes will be open every weekend from 10 AM to 6 PM, with group visits available by appointment on other agreed dates.
As the name “Snow-Covered Nativity Scenes” suggests, this year's exhibition at the Museum focuses on the theme of Children and Snow. Visitors can enjoy nativity scenes filled with snowy landscapes and children, including pieces from the museum’s collection and special exhibits loaned from the Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes, the Central Bohemian Museum in Roztoky, and private collectors and artists. This unique collection has never been displayed together in this form before.
You’ll also get to see the “Great Nativity of Stories” after the first phase of its reconstruction. The middle section has been completely rebuilt, including the Holy Family, the stable, and the cave. Future renovations will focus on the side sections – representing the “Town” and the “East.”
For the first time, the exhibition will feature the Dobřany Winter Nativity Scene by Jan Hrnčíř, an elaborate hand-carved nativity by Mr. Votruba from Slivenec inspired by Josef Lada, a mechanical nativity in a cabinet, and many more.
Don’t miss the Night of the Nativity Scenes on December 27, 2024, from 5 PM to 10 PM.
